The “Probate Court” or “Surrogate Court” in Edmonton, Alberta 

Probate Court or Surrogate Court is officially the Surrogate office, which is a branch of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.  There are approximately eleven Judicial Centers in Alberta that have Surrogate Court offices.  There are special rules as to which office or Surrogate Court a Probate or other application has to be filed in.  It is still commonly referred to as “Surrogate Court”.  Document headers are typically entitled “Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta (Surrogate Matter)” as provided for in the Rules of Court. The Edmonton office of the Surrogate Court is located at the main Court House in downtown Edmonton.  The exact address is:

Phone: (780) 422-2435 The Court is at the south west corner of 97 Street and 103 A Avenue.  It is a six story, cream colored building.  The Surrogate Court office is on the main floor and the staff there are very helpful.
